Device Management of Cardiac Arrhythmias

As paramedics you are called upon everyday to care for the sick and injured. With today's medical technology, your job is even more difficult. Implantable devices such as pacemakers, cardio-defibrillators, insertable loop recorders, and neuro-stimulators can compound the physical examination and make patient care decisions more difficult. But, it doesn't have to be that way. This one day device seminar will take out much of the mystery of this new technology and allow you to provide the care that your patient needs.

Understanding Implantable Devices

  • Pacemakers
Learn about the indications for pacing including heart failure, as well as basic pacemaker technology, implant techniques, troubleshooting pacing systems, and analyzing ECG strips.
  • Cardio-Defibrillators
Get to know AICDs: from sensing, detection, to delivered therapy. Learn about implant techniques, indications for implant, studies supporting AICD therapies, etiology of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation, and device malfunctions.
  • Miscellaneous Devices
Learn the latest about insertable loop recorders and neuro stimulators that are now being implanted in the United States.
